An inspirational year for Sally Fawcett and the Smiley Paces

A break from the norm but I have decided to dedicate a blog to some inspirational women ‘the smiley paces’ and one in particular Sally Fawcett.

The smiley paces started a few years ago as just a few school gate mums wanting to run in a group but has grown into a large, motivated and dedicated group of lady’s. They now also compete in triathlon, duathlon, swimming, fell and now ultra marathon running with great success. They boast a rock goddess and vastly improving athlete in Charlotte Cooper of the subways.

This year a couple of smileys have attained GB age grade international triathlete & duathlete status. One of these, the eccentric Kate Morris & one of the group founders, regularly places in her age group in races.

Sally Fawcett though has had an exceptional year. I first met Sally during the 2010 Percy pud 10k when I battled with her for the last 3miles and she finished second lady behind a fellow hallamshire harrier Alice despite on chip time running faster. It was a few months later when she started training with the harriers that I got to know her a little better.

Since then she has gone from strength to strength. Regularly placing and even winning senior races including the first Ultra tour of the Peak District on her ultramarathon debut. She is possibly one of the best female runners in South Yorkshire and can only get better.

2013 I am sure will bring more & more success for the Smileys. After all is there anything this exceptional bunch of ladies can’t do?
