11week 3days till the White Peak Marathon
The above quote is how my running seems to be going at the moment.
Monday was try the knee out day. Set off from work, Knee deep heated and bandaged, for an easy 5miles from work to Middlewood Tram station. Pace quickly became a little brisk and continued till the end of the run. No pain in the knee at all which was great. 5.22miles in 38min 23secs. 7:21 pace.
This run convinced me to do the Speed session on Tuesday night.
Tuesday, Got to Clubhouse hoping that it was going to be a flatter speed session like clay wheels or Hillsborough park but the list said Ecclesfield fartlek, not flat but should be the tester. Left the support bandage off, halfway up Halifax road the knee grumbled a bit, sped up and grumble went away. Had a good session, keeping up with the front guys but last Saturdays Parkrun seeming to be in my legs. When we got to the 3rd from last long stride past the garage to the phone box in Parson Cross the knee started to hurt so backed off for the rest off the main session. Good plan and no more pain till 200yrds from the clubhouse when the nerve decided to hurt again. Sharp pain again! Bugger. I think 8.4miles of speed session was a little too much for the knee.
I have made the decision to, after(knee permitting) another go at a 5k PB on saturday, lay off speed till after the South Yorkshire 1/2 marathon on the 20th March. This is the first tester on how the marathon training is going. If I can get thru the rest of this week and next the week of taper the week before the 1/2 will hopefully be just what the knee needs.
Tonight was a risky run from work to Oughtibridge. Told myself that any pain in the knee, even mild pain and I would bail out and get the tram/bus at the nearest stop. Luckily the run was pain-free in the early march and surprisingly warm sun. It was nice running thru Beeley woods
with a few other runners going the other way to say ‘hi’ to. Knee was bandaged and deep heated again which now seems to be the way forward for now. 7.18miles in 58min 38secs.
One more run Thursday night before Saturday and think about a 10 or 15mile long run sunday both depending on the knee. Crossed fingers, till I get cramp anyway.
